# Instagram

Public Instagram posts and reels naming your keyword in their caption or hashtags.

Instagram's own search lists popular posts, not new ones, so Mentio reads Instagram two ways: new captions through public web search, twice a day, and, for a one-word keyword, every new post under its hashtag.

## What a mention carries

* `post.text`: the caption, hashtags it does not spell out, and the search snippet (for a reel, often what is said).
* `post.engagement`: likes and comments (as replies), and views where Instagram gives them.
* `author`: name and profile link. No avatar and no follower count.

The rest is the same on every platform: relevance, sentiment and intent from the classifier, your triage, and the keyword it matched. See the [mention shape](/api).

## Mute an author

`instagram.com/name`, or a handle. A post or reel link is refused: it does not name its author. See [Mute authors](/alerts#mute-authors).

## Limits

* Only a one-word keyword gets the hashtag feed; a phrase is found through captions alone.
* Search lists a post 7 to 24 hours after it was published, so a caption match can arrive a day late.
* Keywords created before Instagram was added (September 2026) keep the platforms they had: turn Instagram on per keyword.
